ARABESCATO

Quarried from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany, Arabescato is one of Italy’s most expressive white marbles. Sourced from the same region as Carrara, it has a stronger, more dramatic character, defined by grey, charcoal and occasional taupe markings across a white to warm white base.

Where Carrara is known for finer veining, Arabescato is distinguished by its brecciated structure, formed as limestone was transformed under intense heat and pressure, fractured and naturally recemented by recrystallised calcite, pyrite and iron oxides. These minerals create its natural depth and tonal range, from cool grey and charcoal to occasional golden or brown undertones.

Design

Arabescato brings a strong architectural presence to any space. Its bold contrast and graphic veining make it particularly suited to feature walls, bookmatched panels, bathrooms, kitchen islands, vanities, furniture and architectural details.

Within the Arabescato family, Arabescato Corchia is considered the most iconic and recognisable expression. It is defined by bold, open veining that moves dynamically across the surface in sweeping, irregular formations. The contrast between deep grey to near-black veining and a warm white background creates a strong visual rhythm, making it particularly effective in large-scale applications where the stone can be read as a continuous composition. Corchia often presents a sense of movement and depth, with veining that appears layered and intersecting, giving it a powerful architectural presence.

Arabescato Cervaiole offers a more refined and structured interpretation of the material. Its veining is typically finer, more linear and more evenly distributed, creating a calmer and more controlled visual effect. The background is often brighter and cleaner in tone, which enhances the clarity of the pattern without overwhelming the surface. This variety is well suited to interiors where Arabescato is desired, but with a more restrained and elegant expression. It performs particularly well in contemporary spaces that favour balance, symmetry and subtle contrast.

Arabescato Fantastico Arni is the most expressive and organic of the three. It is characterised by a softer, more fluid brecciated structure where fragments of white, pale grey and graphite tones merge into broad, wave-like formations. Rather than defined veining, it often presents as flowing geological movement, with transitions that feel continuous and painterly. This creates a more natural, less structured appearance compared to Corchia and Cervaiole, making it especially suited to feature applications where a sense of softness, depth and natural abstraction is desired.

Surface Finish

Arabescato is commonly used in polished and honed finishes. Polishing intensifies its contrast and crystalline depth, while honing creates a muted, understated surface suited to contemporary interiors.

Application

As a marble, Arabescato is softer and more porous than granite or quartzite. Cleaning with pH-neutral products and annual sealing are recommended to preserve its appearance. With appropriate care, it can be used for bathroom vanities, wall cladding, interior flooring, furniture, fireplace surrounds, decorative elements and selected kitchen applications.
