Semi-precious stones
precious stone is a premium decorative material made from large slabs of natural mineral crystals such as fluorite, quartz, and agate. Its distinctive feature is its translucent appearance, which sparkles when illuminated from behind, making each slab a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art.
Siamtak sources semi-precious stones from origins around the world, including Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and South Africa, and offers a Cut to size service to ensure your designs are unique and stand out

What are semi-precious stones?
precious stones are natural minerals that closely resemble gemstones in beauty but are less rare, making them more affordable. When used in decorative applications, crystals with similar colors and patterns are carefully selected and arranged to form a complete sheet. These are then bonded together with clear resin and reinforced with a backing structure to create large, ready-to-install panels.
Due to the unique nature of each mineral crystal, every piece of semi-precious stone has a distinctive pattern that cannot be replicated. Choosing to own this type of stone is therefore like having a one-of-a-kind work of art in your home
How many types of semi-precious stones are there?
The types commonly used for decorative panels are as follows:
- Fluorite (calcium fluoride) comes in both green and purple colors. It is highly translucent, making it most suitable for backlit applications.
- Rose quartz is a sweet, soft pink crystal that evokes a gentle feeling and is much stronger than fluorite.
- Agate, or chalcedony, has clearly defined layered patterns and comes in a variety of shades including gray, brown, and white.
Advantages and disadvantages of semi-precious stones
strength
- Translucent and backlit, creating effects that other decorative materials cannot achieve
- Each sheet has a unique pattern; it's a one-of-a-kind piece
- Cut to size as needed on-site
weakness
- Fluorite has a hardness of only 4 on the Mohs scale, which is softer than marble, making it easily scratched and unsuitable for areas with heavy use
- Because it involves arranging crystals with resin, high heat and harsh cleaning agents should be avoided
- It is a rare material, so its price is higher than that of ordinary natural stone
Where can semi-precious stones be installed?
The selling point of semi-precious stones is their translucency, making them suitable for placement where they can be illuminated from behind, for example:
- Backlit wall
- Room dividers / partitions
- Headboard bar / display counter
- Decorative table / Center table
- Headboard walls and decorative elements that need to create a focal point
For high-traffic areas like floors or kitchen countertops, we recommend choosing the more durable granite or quartzite instead. Alternatively, consult the Siamtak team about reinforced coatings before making your decision
