- Composite (natural gemstone and resin)
- Primary mineral
- Agate (chalcedony, quartz family)
Black Agate is created from sections of natural agate, a form of chalcedony within the quartz family. Each piece reveals its own bands, crystal formations and natural cavities, creating a surface with considerable depth and variation.
The material shown combines charcoal, black, smoky grey, brown, amber and occasional blue tones. Its greatest characteristic is the contrast between darker areas and translucent crystal centres. When illuminated from behind, the individual formations become considerably more pronounced.
